HistoryIn the absence of early records, 1780 is the generally accepted organization date of Long Creek Presbyterian Church, being the date on the oldest marked grave in the cemetery - that of Joseph Blackwood, dated October 22, 1780, age 30 years. He probably died of wounds received in the Battle of Kings Mountain on October 17, 1780. Long Creek is mentioned in the minutes of the first meeting of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the United States in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1789. The present wood frame sanctuary, the third one for the church, was built in 1876 at a cost of $1,500. Still in use are the original clear glass windows, inside doors, floor consisting of random width heart pine planks, hand-built pews, and pulpit. In May of 1986, Gaston County declared this structure a Historical Site. Contact UsLong Creek Presbyterian Church Driving Directions
